Mentis Mundi is a collaborative world-building and fiction project interested in human expression and creativity.
The hope is to one day grow into a sprawling universe filled with endless little rabbit holes that fans of all kinds can get lost down and obsess over and share with others. A universe big enough to hold multiple genres and scales and perspectives.
Inspired by expansive, much-studied universes such as Star Trek, Warhammer 40,000, Star Wars, and Lord of the Rings, as well as the worlds of Asimov's Foundation and Robot series, Herbert's Dune, and Iain M. Banks' The Culture series, Mentis Mundi hopes to create a semi-grounded space opera landscape with room for both "harder" speculative fiction and touches of the more fantastical.
While we hold a special place in our hearts for fans of lore and world building, we understand such things are meant to be scaffolding for storytelling. We strive to ensure published stories and art stay inviting and accessible, not so bogged-down in specifics as to become unenjoyable for those unconscerned with the minutiae of the world.
Mentis Mundi is made possible by a very small, dedicated team working for free to create, maintain, and operate everything needed to make a universe come alive.
We want Mentis Mundi to work like the Internet used to. We're not interested in selling your information, feeding you ads, or creating some AI panopticon.
We may collect emails from those who sign up for our free forums in order to make an eventual newsletter easier, never to sell to third parties.
If we initiate any tracking on the site, it will cookieless, meant for analyzing web traffic and not to funnel users toward an ad machine.
The future of Mentis Mundi is a blank canvas.
Plans include a TTRPG based on the world, audio versions of stories, audio dramas, in-world podcasts, in-world music, lore videos, animations, physical editions of collected stories, art books, and so much more.
Since community is central to the project, as our infrastructure grows, fans will be able to contribute their own audio dramas, their own animations, or entirely new creations currently undreampt of.
As a universe in its infancy, the potential is endless, limited only by our ability to grow.
The easiest way to help Mentis Mundi is by sharing it with others! We will not be spending much, if anything, on advertising, which means we depend on the word of mouth of humans like you!
By far the biggest limiting factor is financial. If you're able, consider giving to our Patreon. There, you'll not only be making a direct impact, but you'll have a more active part in the development and direction of Mentis Mundi. At a few hundred dollars a month, paying for new stories and art becomes self-sustaining, freeing us up to expand into new areas. This effect compounds, as more of the project is funded through Patreon, the more we're able to experiment and grow.
